The festival comes in two stages:
1) The Official Selection
This first stage is non-competitive. An international jury will select all relevant sustainability-themed productions that live up to the required production quality. The jury will judge each piece on its coherent & unique story line, its technical realization and its over-all effectiveness. All selected pieces will be part of the official selection and will be featured and made available to watch on our website sustainable-stories.org. (Over time sustainable-stories.org intends to become a hub for sustainability-related videos.)
2) The Selection for the Live Public Screenings
Out of the official selection the same International Jury will select the 7 best films to be screened in front of live audiences. This second stage of the festival is competitive! The public screenings will be held between May 15th and August 15th 2018 in Medellin, Bogota, Houston, Havana & Munich. (Venues and exact dates are to be confirmed soon!) Each selected film from this international competition will be screened in all of these 5 cities! The jury will also select 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize of these 7 films to receive cash and / or in-kind prizes. (Counts still to be confirmed a this point, dependent on available sponsors!)
Each of these 5 cities (Houston - Galveston, Medellin, Bogota, Munich & Havana) will also have their own local competitions. These local competitions work just like the international competition:
Local Competitions Stage 1
This stage is non-competitive. A local jury will select all properly-themed productions that live up to the specified production standards. These films will then be made available to watch on the appropriate regional tab of the sustainable-stories.org website.
Local Competitions Stage 2
The same local juries will then select the 7 best of each local competitions to be screened live in their city. The jury will also select 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize of the seven films to receive was and in-kind prizes (values still to be confirmed at this point, dependent on available local sponsors!) The winner of each local production will also go on to be screened in all 5 cities.
In each of the 5 screenings the 7 selected local films and the 7 selected international films will be screened together in one 90 minute screening. The winners of the four other cities will be added to this screwing, which means each of the local screenings will feature 18 sustainability-themed short films
