This mural was painted by Houston artist Jacob Messa with help of UHCL students during our 2023 Sustainable Stories Film Fest Art Gallery Opening on November 10 in the main hallway of the UHCL Bayou Building next to our gallery.

The Festival is a collaboration between the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL) and Alvin Community College (ACC). We show films and artwork about ideas, concepts and stories of sustainability and we empower filmmakers and artists working on sustainability-related subjects. This year's special focus is Community Sustainability.

Participating pieces can be documentary & narrative films, animations, VR / AR productions, experimental films, video art, still images, sculptures, paintings, etc. All films and photography for projection are accepted through FilmFreeway. The deadline for film submissions on FilmFreeway is September 6, the deadline for physical pieces is September 25. For submission of physical art and for deadline waiver codes for Filmfreeway, please reach out directly to the Festival Director Michael Brims at brims@uhcl.edu. For physical pieces (paintings, drawings, sculptures framed photographs, etc.), please submit 2 jpg images, dimensions of the pieces, a short description of the pieces and an artist statement.

Selected films and artwork will be shown at the ACC Gallery form October 1 - 31, with a gallery opening on Oct. 3 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and a screening of the participating films at the 350-seat ACC Theater on Oct 25 at 7:00 PM, as well as from Nov. 7 - Dec 7 at the UHCL Art Gallery with a screening of the participating films at the 500-seat Bayou Theater on Nov. 13, 4:00 PM followed by a gallery opening at 5:30.
